British tenor Samuel Boden began his career as a chef and then went on to study singing with John Wakefield at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.

Opera engagements include the title role of Cavalli’s L’Ormindo for the Royal Opera at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Orphée in Gluck Orphée et Euridyce with Nationale Reisopera, The Fairy Queen for Theater St Gallen and Glyndebourne; Afimono The Return of Ulysses for English National Opera at the Young Vic and Prologue and Quint The Turn of the Screw with The Koenig Ensemble in Mexico. He has sung Charpentier’s Actéon for Opéra de Dijon and Opéra de Lille and Hippolyte Hippolyte et Aricie in concert with Ensemble Pygmalion / Raphaël Pichon; Abaris Les Boréades in concert at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and Damon Acis & Galatea in the Salzburg Mozart Week with Les Musiciens du Louvre / Marc Minkowski; Castor Castor et Pollux with the Early Opera Company / Curnyn and The Indian Queen at Opéra Théâtre de Métropole, Metz.

On the concert platform Samuel has appeared with many highly-regarded period ensembles as well as symphony and chamber orchestras: Bavarian Radio  Symphony Orchestra / Antonini; Gabrieli Consort / Paul McCreesh; Ex Cathedra / Jeffrey Skidmore; the Royal Northern Sinfonia / Thomas Zehetmair; Scottish Chamber Orchestra / Harry Bicket;  Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra / Nicholas Kraemer; Les Arts Florissants / William Christie and Jonathan Cohen; BBC Symphony Orchestra / Sir Andrew Davis, John Storgards, Sakari Oramo and Giancarlo Guerro; Frankfurt Radio Orchestra / Emmanuelle Haïm; Collegium Vocale Gent / Philippe Herreweghe; Wiener Akademie / Martin  Haselböck.

In recital he performs lute song repertoire with Paula Chateaueuf and Britten, Fauré, Debussy and Hahn with Iris Torossian, harp. His growing discography  includes Berlioz Roméo et Juliette with the BBC Symphony Orchestra / Sir Andrew Davis and discs of Monteverdi, Charpentier, Daniel Purcell, Rameau, Bach, Blow alongside Tansy Davies and Alec Roth on Hyperion, Erato, Archiv, Chandos OAE Released, Nimbus, Resonus Classics, NMC and Signum.

Samuel’s recent engagements include Britten with the Salzburg Camerata / Teodor Currentzis, Bach with the Rotterdam Philharmonic / Natalie Stutzmann and title role Rameau Pigmalion with Pinchgut Opera Sydney. This season he sings Telemaco Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria at The Round House for the Royal Opera and Young King in George Benjamin Lessons in love and violence at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden followed by performances in Amsterdam. His plans include the title role Gluck Orphée in Moscow, Oronte Alcina in Karlsruhe, Handel in Vienna, Oslo and Warsaw and opera débuts in Hamburg and Lyon.
